European Network Education and Training in Occupational Safety and Health (ENETOSH)

Dr Walter Eichendorf

Deputy Director General

""To promote safe and healthy workplaces with all means is the core business of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) and the accident insurance institutions in Germany. Aiming at the development of a national culture of prevention two factors have been properly replicated across studies in the past: The leaders commitment and the employees involvement. A third key indicator is the integration of core values and basic assumptions that support health and safety into the business processes and practices of the organization. Accordingly the focus of the Joint German OSH Strategy is on three issues in its second decade: 1. Protecting and strengthening of health in face of work-related psychosocial strain; 2. Reduction of work-related health risks and occupational diseases in the muscle skeletal area and 3. Improvement of the OSH Organisation within enterprises. As far as the human perception of risks is formed by basic assumptions and shaped by social relationships, education and training play an important role for developing a culture of prevention. The European Network Education and Training in Occupational Safety and Health (ENETOSH) offers a platform for systematic knowledge-sharing on issues related to education and training on OSH and promotes networking between different policy areas towards a more global understanding of a culture of prevention.""

Mission statement:
The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) is the umbrella association of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors (the BGs and the public-sector accident insurers respectively). It assumes responsibility for the common interests of its member institutions and promotes their functions in the interests of both member companies and insured individuals. The DGUV represents the statutory accident insurance institutions in their dealings with policy-makers, regional, national, European and international institutions, and employers' and employees' representative bodies. The Institute for Work and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IAG) is a part of the DGUV Academy in Dresden. Since 2001, the institute promotes safety and health at the workplace by training, research & development and consultancy. The European Network Education and Training in Occupational Safety and Health (ENETOSH), a former EU project (D/05/BF/NT-146 253), has been coordinated by IAG since 2005. ENETOSH offers a platform for systematic knowledge-sharing on issues concerning education and training in occupational safety and health. ENETOSH promotes a joint quality assurance of education and training on OSH, an integration of health and safety into education and training at all levels of the education system and the interconnection of safety, health, education and community towards the development of a common culture of prevention. Today, 67 members from 28 countries are involved in ENETOSH.
